About chiropody

The Chiropodist / Podiatrist can recognise and treat problems that affect the feet and lower limb;

- Fungal, nail and skin infections can be treated with creams, paints and systematic medications.

- Painful corns and callus (hard skin) can be removed and prevented from recurring with padding and strapping techniques and footwear advice. In some cases ulceration can occur beneath corns and areas of highest pressure. This can lead to infection and reduced mobility if not treated properly.

- Verrucae, a common viral wart infection of the feet, can be successfully removed with cold treatments and the use of caustics (acids) can supplement this treatment.

- Painful ingrown toenails (a common condition) can be treated conservatively or removed via a surgical procedure under local anaesthetic.

- Generalised muscle pain; mid-foot, ankle, knee, hip and lower back pain; can sometimes be caused by improper foot function. In these cases the lower limb and foot can be assessed biodynamically and a range of custom moulded orthotics / insoles manufactured to correct foot function, thereby improving gait and body posture. This intervention can often be successful in the treatment of sports injuries.
