Thought Field Therapy (TFT) was developed by Dr Roger Callahan, a clinical psychologist in the US, over 30 years ago and has been officially recognized by the NHS Trust Association as a complementary therapy. Callahan Techniques® Thought Field Therapy is a fast, effective and painless way to conquer and often eliminate, fears, anxieties, trauma, addictions and other emotional problems. TFT can be used to address the symptoms of conditions such as autism, Alzheimer’s and physical pain etc.
TFT is commonly used to treat and deal with phobias, such as fear of flying, anxiety over dental appointments, and fear of heights. It can be used to treat addictions, including smoking, as well as anxieties over relationship problems, illnesses, redundancy, work-related stress and panic attacks. TFT is also extremely effective in dealing with post-traumatic stress disorders.
During a treatment you will be asked to think about a particular problem and quantify it on a scale of 1 to 10 as to how distressed you are about it; 1 representing no distress and 10 the highest level of distress. You will be taken through a specific sequence of tapping at points on your own body. The tapping is undertaken by you so you remain in control at all times. Results can be achieved in as little as fifteen minutes with patients reporting that their distress levels have fallen, e.g. from 8 at the start of a treatment to 1 by the end of it.
